CPPD Saturday 13th Sept 2025

CPPD session – 10 a.m. – 12 noon in Hereford

The session will provide an introduction to the theory and practice of (Trauma Centre) Trauma

Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). TCTSY is an embodiment practice that developed out of the research at the

Trauma Centre in the US, founded by Bessel van de Kolk through the Institute for Embodiment and Trauma in Massachusetts.

The approach is derived from and uses principles from yoga. It doesn’t require participants to have yoga experience and suits people of all levels of physical ability.  In terms of the research evidence, it has been demonstrated to be particularly suitable for people who have complex trauma

(sometimes called C -PTSD), PTSD or those who have ongoing difficulties resulting from trauma related stress.

The session is facilitated by Jnanamati,  in-person (at the Marches Offices) and online, and will present information about the theories behind the practice, particularly focussing on the recent discoveries in neuroscience that highlights the impact of trauma on the function of interoceptive pathways. You will learn the how and the why of the methods used as well as be introduced to some embodied ways of working that you might o:er to your clients. It is also a practice that can benefit all of us and our own wellbeing as therapists.

There will be a facilitated practice and space will be made for considering future opportunities at MCS, which might include:

  • The potential for trauma sensitive yoga to be o:ered as an adjunct to counselling/psychotherapy sessions
  • Group work for clients with trauma histories e.g. refugee populations •   Online self-care group session for practitioners
